Challenge #13
Hey everybody! Because bessorla is really busy right now, I'm re-taking-over HisDarkDrabbles (sorry it took me so long!), and I'll hopefully be posting a new challenge each week.

This time, to encourage everyone to contribute and have fun while doing it, I'm posting a rather silly challenge. Enjoy!

Topic: Write the cheesiest, corniest, most awful Lyra/Will fic you can. You can make it a songfic, a poem, ad nauseum.
Word Count: As long as you can manage to stomach it.
Setting: Your choice.

Drabble Challenge #12
Word Count: 100
Setting: St. Sophia's School
Topic: Lyra's first day

.::.

I apologize for not updating last week - RL crept up and took over. In fact, I still haven't gotten back on track online, but I knew I couldn't leave this community hanging! I should also note that I no longer have access to the books, so if I spell something wrong (or call it by the wrong name), I apologize (I think I may have already done this with "St. Sophia's School"). Just let me know and I'll fix any mistakes.

Drabble Challenge #11
Word Count: Minimum 250
Setting: The World of the Dead
Topic: Payment to leave

.::.

The challenges are becoming more specific. How this will affect drabbles produced, I'm not sure, seeing as there aren't many responses. *wink* Though I do know of at least one person who posted last week's response to their personal journal, and not the community. ;) Don't be shy, now!

New Community!
This is somewhat OT, but I figured since this is a fanfiction drabble community, it's not too off topic.

Not your average witch queen. 100 words.
"Papa?"

Ruta looked up at her father, her tiny face slowly contorting into a frown.

"Papa, where did Mama go?"

Her father smiled, his huge, calloused hands gently patting his daughter's mess of soft black curls.

"She...couldn't stay here with us anymore. Her subjects needed her."

Andrievs saw Ruta frown again, this time more deeply.

"Your mother's a queen, you know. A queen of witches. She rides on tree branches, and she'll live for hundreds of years!"

"Will I, Papa? Will I live for that long, too? Will you?"

In answer, her father took her into his arms and cried.

Drabble Challenge #7
Word Count: Must be at least 100 words, but there's no limit for the maximum count.
Setting: Residence of a parent/guardian
Topic: Childhood Innocence

.::.

I know the topic is more vague than challenges previous to this, but I expect that'll leave more room for interpretation by each author. Let me know if you like it this way or not, and I'll take that under consideration for next week. Have at it! :)

New Drabble Challenges soon!
Hi everyone! elenlaurelin has kindly agreed to let me post challenges for this community, since I really didn't want to see it expired and forgotten.

So, be ready for a new challenge to be posted on Sunday, and you'll have the week to respond to it. I'm angling to post challenges every Sunday. :)

Thanks again to elenlaurelin, and here's hoping this community will be active once again!

I feel really silly asking this after i've just joined up but, what's a drabble?

I like writing, so I think i'll like it here- even if I don't know what a drabble is

New, but very glad to have found this community. First drabble in response to Challenge #6. Um, 88 words over the limit, but if it helps, am dissatisfied with the ending. :)

Mary glanced to the side and smiled slightly at Will as they walked down the country lane in silence. She hadn’t been sure if a vacation was the best option for her meager finances, but it had allotted Will a welcome distraction from home, and memories. Now, strolling along the quiet road as snow drifted down from the winter sky, he looked almost content. Mary looked back towards the sky; the lazy journey of a million snowflakes completely captivating. It almost looked like Dust, sans the gentle golden color that emanated from those particles.

As she had been enthralled by the snowfall, Mary didn’t see the twisted root in the road ahead and suddenly found herself on the ground, hand throbbing from where she had tried to brace her fall. Will rushed to her side and gently lifted her hand from where she’d been clutching it to her chest, taking out a handkerchief and wiping at a cut that had appeared on her fair skin. Mary scoffed at the wound.

“Mary,” Will said, chuckling quietly, “You should be more careful. Wouldn’t want to lose a finger now, would you?”

Dark Materials Drabble
Hello everyone. I'm new here. I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly. I've been a fan of the Philip Pullman books since I was a little girl. Here's my contribution, although - it's about 50 words over the limit. Sorry, I tried to shorten it.

~*~

She remembers the road was coated in snow and ice and the only earth she could see was below the paw prints. Lyra can smell the blood of the bear, it's musky and it's scent is heavy in the cold air. She doesn't need to turn around to see his blood painted on the white snow, doesn't need to see his blood to know that he's bleeding. And Lyra thinks some of the blood might be hers because she dropped her handkerchief earlier. She's been coughing blood into it and Pan said that it looked like a painting of a butterfly; the blood spread out and fanned across the cloth. Pan says this to her, silently because he's too weak to speak. Lyra doesn't need to turn around to see the blood but she does and all she can see is white with drops of dark red and Lyra can't tell which ones are hers.

Hi everyone, I am just joining this community. My name is Julie-Anne, I am thirteen years old, and have been in love with HDM for 5/6 something years. I saw this, and, being a writer, I joined.

I was just wondering - after completing said challenge, do we post it in a comment - or in a new entry?

Thanks.

a young Marisa Coulter, of course. ;)
She looked up at the stars, smiling at their brightness, at how they seemed to wink at her and say, hello. Though surely, they couldn't possibly be doing that. She was so small and insignificant compared to them, wrapped up in one of her father's faded cloaks for warmth. What business would they have with the dark haired girl sitting on a roof, gawking up at them?

None.

She sighed, realizing this, and turned to her dæmon, but she didn't need to say anything. He knew exactly what she was thinking, and he became a kitten so he could settle on her lap and comfort her. She smiled again, softly scratching the back of his ears, and he purred. He looked at her and seemed to be smiling, and he nodded up at the sky, towards the stars.

"Someday, Marisa. Someday," he assured her, as she wrapped the cloak around both of them.

Angelica, again
Moonlight strikes a young, bitter face. Her mouth is pulled in a tight frown, and her dark red hair has fallen into her face, where it lies dangerously close to her pouting lips. Two small hands are placed behind her body on the shingles of a great tower's roof. As she gazes up at the sky, a low, distant chime is heard. She turns her head, all of her brooding hate gone in a moment of fear. She, just like every other child in every other world, knows what the great clock is saying. The witching hour has just begun.
